Another common cause of dry eyes is having excessive oil produced by glands in the eyelids, a condition known as blepharitis.

Being pregnant can contribute to dry eye and eye twitches can result both from the pregnancy and having dry eyes. Likewise, women who take hormone replacement therapy are at higher risk of getting dry eye. The risk is greater for women who take only estrogen compared to women who take estrogen and progesterone.
