Almost 30 million Americans suffer from migraines, but they don't have to be debilitating if properly managed
with medication and lifestyle changes. It's unknown exactly how many people suffer from migraines and eye twitching
at the same time, but the two conditions do share several common causes and treatment for one condition often helps
the other.
If no treatment is given eye twitches for days can last and a migraine headache can last
anywhere from four to 72 hours. Eye spasms and migraines also are common if one misses meals, fasts, is dehydrated,
or has allergies. Other common migraine triggers include foods such as alcohol, chocolate, MSG, aged cheeses, and
aspartame. Changes in weather or barometric pressure, intense physical exertion, and medications such as
vasodilators (nitroglycerin) and oral contraceptives can also induce migraine headaches. Finally, changes in the
weather or certain smells like perfumes, cologne, or second hand smoke can cause migraines.
